History of Smart

Smart, the innovative automotive brand, has embarked on a visionary journey that has reshaped the landscape of urban mobility. Since its inception in 1994, Smart has been at the forefront of developing compact, eco-friendly, and highly efficient vehicles tailored for urban living.

The idea for Smart was born in the early 1990s, with the realization that traditional cars were often too large and cumbersome for navigating congested city streets. The collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Swatch, the renowned Swiss watchmaker, led to the birth of Smart, combining the engineering expertise of Mercedes with the creative and design flair of Swatch.

In 1998, Smart unveiled its first model, the Smart Fortwo, a revolutionary two-seater microcar that was designed with the urban lifestyle in mind. Its compact dimensions, agility, and ease of parking made it an instant hit among city dwellers seeking a practical and eco-conscious mode of transportation.

Smart's commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking technologies set it apart from traditional automakers. The brand embraced innovative electric mobility early on, introducing the Smart Electric Drive in 2007, showcasing its dedication to reducing emissions and embracing a more sustainable future.

As Smart continued to evolve, the brand expanded its lineup with models like the Smart Forfour, offering a four-seat version for urban families, and the Smart EQ range, providing all-electric options to meet the changing demands of environmentally conscious drivers.

In addition to its environmentally-friendly approach, Smart also embraced cutting-edge connectivity and urban mobility solutions. The Smart EQ Control app allows drivers to monitor battery charge, pre-condition the vehicle, and find charging stations conveniently from their smartphones.

Smart's pioneering spirit and focus on urban mobility have not gone unnoticed. The brand has received numerous accolades for its innovative design, environmental initiatives, and contributions to urban transportation solutions.

Today, Smart remains dedicated to shaping the future of urban mobility. With its commitment to electric mobility, urban-focused designs, and technological advancements, Smart continues to be a driving force in sustainable and efficient transportation solutions for the urban lifestyle.
