History of Iso

The history of Iso is a fascinating journey through the world of automotive innovation, luxury, and entrepreneurship. Founded by Renzo Rivolta in Italy in the aftermath of World War II, Iso Automobili S.p.A. quickly gained recognition for its distinctive approach to car manufacturing.

Iso's early years were marked by the production of motorcycles and small-displacement scooters. However, it was the introduction of the Isetta microcar in the 1950s that brought Iso into the international spotlight. The Isetta, with its unique front-entry door and compact size, became a symbol of post-war mobility in Europe and other markets. The model's success laid the foundation for Iso's future endeavors.

In the 1960s, Iso turned its attention to luxury performance cars. The Iso Rivolta GT, introduced in 1962, blended Italian design with American V8 power, creating a grand tourer that captured the essence of both continents. The Rivolta GT was followed by the Iso Grifo, a stunning sports car that combined elegance with high-performance capabilities.

However, it was the Iso Grifo 7 Litri that truly showcased Iso's engineering prowess. Powered by a massive 7.0-liter V8 engine, the Grifo 7 Litri became a performance icon, delivering exhilarating speed and dynamics. It was a testament to Iso's commitment to pushing boundaries and creating automotive masterpieces.

In the early 1970s, Iso faced financial challenges, leading to the end of production for many of its models. The company shifted its focus to other industries, such as refrigeration equipment. Iso's automotive division eventually ceased operations, bringing an end to an era of iconic cars.

Despite its relatively short existence, Iso left an indelible mark on the automotive world. The brand's commitment to blending Italian aesthetics with high-performance American engines resulted in timeless classics that continue to be revered by enthusiasts and collectors. The Iso Grifo, in particular, stands as a testament to the brand's dedication to engineering excellence and the pursuit of automotive perfection.
