In 1972, Daewoo was founded. The company was founded by the South Korean Shinjin Motor and the world-famous General Motors concern. A little more than 10 years passed, and a common enterprise for Korea and the USA appeared on the market - Daewoo Motors.
The first “swallow” of the brand was “Le Mans”, made on the basis of the Opel Kadett. This model has been the most popular among new foreign brands on the Russian automobile market for so many years in a row.
The Le Mans assembly was opened several times in other countries (in Uzbekistan, Russia and Romania). If we exaggerate a little, we can call it a domestic passenger car, but with a good bloodline of modernization.
In 1986, the latest series of Opel Kadett began to be produced in Korea, which was exported to the USA under license and also sold well in the local market. After a slight restyling in 1995, the brand was renamed Nexia. In Korea, she was better known as Cielo. This car with an extended body is always present on the Russian car market. The Tico model appeared in 1985, but it was not as widespread among buyers.
In the early 1990s, collaboration with General ceased, and Deu finally presented itself as an independent company. The Prince model immediately appeared, and a year later - Espero. The body of this car was made on the basis of Opel's Asconi.
Daewoo intensively produces cars, and as a result occupies one of the first places in Korea. To become the absolute leader and not only in Korea, a number of more models were released - Nubira, Leganza, Lanos and others.
In 2000, Korean creditors came up with the idea of dividing Daewoo into three separate enterprises. Daewoo International is engaged only in trading operations, Daewoo Construction specializes in design and production, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering operates in the shipbuilding industry.
Three years ago, the Daewoo brand, which for some time belonged to the American General and is recognized in most European countries, was replaced by Chevrolet. Individual Daewoo factories continue to operate, both separately and under the patronage of well-known concerns.
