History of Dacia

Dacia is a Romanian car brand, its name translated as “Dacia”, which is what Romania was called during the Roman Empire. The company was founded in 1967 in the city of Pitesti and was called Uzina Autoturismul Pitesti. The company's abbreviation (UAP) was depicted on Dacia's first shield-shaped logo in 1968. The emblem also depicts one of the symbols of Romania - an eagle spreading its wings on a mountain top.

The company sought to develop this market segment as quickly as possible. The company decides to produce a car. The plant in Piteste was built in just a year and a half. It was named Pitesti Motor-Car Plant. On July 1, 1968, installation of equipment began. The first car was released on August 3, 1968. And already on August 20, serial production of the DACIA 1100 began.

In August 1969, serial production of the DACIA 1300 began. This car immediately gained enormous popularity. In October 1969, it was demonstrated simultaneously at the Paris Motor Show. At the initial stage, the car was made from parts that were exported from France and was intended exclusively for the domestic market. It was a sedan with a longitudinal front engine, front-wheel drive, five seats and four doors.

The DACIA 1302 began mass production in 1975. It was a pickup truck. There were modifications of it - with or without a canvas top. It was equipped with a platform measuring 2.25 meters and could transport loads weighing up to 500 kg. The mechanical part of the car was practically no different from the 1300. The only slight difference was in the rear suspension. Almost all the cars were sent to Algeria.

In 1997, the Dacia D33 prototype was exhibited. The design of this car was developed in Italy. Three different designs were presented. But the monovolume option turned out to be the most successful. For trips within the city, the Dacia 500 model was created. This car was later named Lastun. This car was manufactured in Timisoara in very small quantities. Due to low quality, production of the car was discontinued in 1989. The first car designed by the Romanians in Pitesti was the Nova. It was a five-seat, five-door sedan. The third generation model was presented in 1996 in Bucharest at the SAB exhibition. It was type R524. Two years later, the Nova is equipped with a Bosch fuel injection system and a completely new dashboard.

In 2000, the SupeRNova modification was born. This model received a gearbox from Renault Clio. In addition, a new injection engine is installed in it. Until 2005, Dacia produced approximately 2.5 million cars. Since 2004, Dacia has mastered the production of the Logan sedan on the worldwide Renault X90 platform. In 2006, on the same reinforced platform (M90), the Logan MCV station wagon was developed, which in 2007 was supplemented by the Logan VAN commercial van, and in 2008 by the Logan Pickup pickup truck. After the transition to a modern model range, the production of Dacia cars increased manifold.
