History of CHEVROLET

The history of the birth of this brand is very unusual and interesting, if only because the car was named not in honor of its creator, but in honor of the mechanic and racer Louis Joseph Chevrolet. This made it different from all previous car brands. Louis Joseph Chevrolet was born in 1878 into a large watchmaking family that lived in the Swiss town of Chaux-de-Fonds. After 10 years, the family moved to France in search of a better life. Louis graduated from high school here. After that, he got a job at the Mors automobile company as an auto mechanic. He truly fell in love with cars. A few years later he became a racing driver. Having mastered his knowledge of motorsports and automotive manufacturing, Louis moved to Canada, and in 1900 to the USA. There he became the official representative of the French company De Dion Bouton. But racing and motorsport always came first for him. Until 1905, Louis competed in every race that was held in the state. He was very brave and decisive. It was these qualities that attracted the attention of American industrial kings to him. The young racer was offered to participate in the Vanderbilt Cup - a race for the Vanderbilt millionaire's cup. He performed very well. Although he did not win them, he became known as a professional of the highest class.

In 1963, the sporty Corvette was launched into production. This is the company's most famous model in the world. Only when it is born does it become a symbol of a sports car. There was immediate excitement around this car. The Motorama exhibition hall, located in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, was literally attacked by both ordinary car enthusiasts and motorsport professionals. In just a couple of days, several hundred cars were sold out. The body of this car was made of heavy-duty fiberglass. This was the first time such material was used. It should be noted that not a single car of the same class as the Corvette managed to survive five modifications, each of which enjoyed truly resounding success. But not all car enthusiasts wanted to drive very fast. Many people needed a car for trips out of town or on vacation. They expected smaller cars from General Motors. The company responded to these expectations with the release of the two-door Chevrolet Blazer K series car of the 1969 model. This vehicle was mounted on a full-size pickup truck chassis. The Blazer was much more maneuverable than the Suburban and somewhat smaller in size. But at the same time it remained quite roomy. A major modernization of these vehicles was carried out in 1973. They became wider and longer. In addition, they were equipped with disc brakes on the front wheels.

Thanks to the Chevrolet marketing service in the mid-seventies, such a thing as a Utility Vehicle (SUV) appeared in the world of motorists and cars. Nowadays this concept has become generally accepted. By the mid-80s, Chevrolet was mass-producing two three-door Blazer SUVs: a large one - 4.7 meters and a small one - 4.3 meters. They differ not only in size, but also in some design features. In 1995, the final decision was made to give these vehicles different names. The large SUV received the name “Chevrolet Tahoe”, while the small one retained the name “Blazer”. In addition, they began to belong to different classes. In 1995, the modern Blazer was awarded the honorary title of SUV of the Year. A year later, the full-size Tahoe was crowned the winner. Before this, there has never been a single case where a brand became a leader twice, and even in a row. Since 1995, the Chevrolet Tahoe has been produced in two modifications - with three-door and five-door bodies. “Suburban” was unified with “Tahoe” in its main units and components.

But already in 2000, a new version of the “Tahoe” appeared. It had a built-in Auto 4WD system, which was completely new at that time. The suspension was completely updated, the engine became significantly more economical than the previous one, but at the same time, more powerful. In 2003, additional changes were made to the model. They made the car even more reliable, comfortable and convenient. Since 2001, the Chevrolet Trail Blazer has been produced in America. It has nothing in common with the old Blazer except the name. It was created on a fundamentally new platform.
