History of BMW

 BMW AG (short for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, with German “Bavarian Motor Works”) is a German company engaged in the production and sale of cars and motorcycles, spare parts and accessories for them, engineering products and related services.

BMW AG is the parent company of the BMW Group, which is focused on the automotive and motorcycle markets. The BMW Group operates internationally in more than 150 countries. The BMW Group includes, in addition to BMW AG, all subsidiaries over which BMW AG can exercise direct and controlling influence. In addition, BMW AG manages the BMW Group.

 

The BMW Group is one of the most successful car and motorcycle manufacturers in the world and one of the largest industrial companies in Germany. BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce are three influential premium brands in the automotive industry. The company conducts research and innovation activities at 13 enterprises in five countries and manufactures its products at 31 enterprises in 14 countries. The company also offers financial services. The company is actively involved in such types of motorsports as Formula 1, Touring Car Championship, etc. The company's headquarters are located in Munich.

In 2016, the company produced 2,359,756 cars of the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands and 145,555 motorcycles. For this year, profit before tax was 9.665 billion euros (the highest in the company's history), and turnover was 94.163 billion euros. 47.1% of turnover came from Europe, 28.8% from Asia, 20.7% from America and 3.4% from other regions. Gross margin in 2016 was 19.9.

 

The CEO of BMW as of 2023 is Norbert Reithofer. 46.7% of the shares belong to the Quandt family.
